PR Savings Bank receives Pagtugon Award from BSP

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Resources Savings Banking Corporation (PR Savings Bank) was conferred the Pagtugon Award for Thrift Banks by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) during the 2014 Awards Ceremony and Appreciation Lunch for BSP Stakeholderss held on July 9, 2014 in celebration of the BSP’s 21st anniversary.

Monetary Board Chairman and BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. and Monetary Board Member and chairman of the board of judges Mr. Alfredo C. Antonio, together with other key BSP officials, led the awards ceremony held at the BSP Assembly Hall to recognize this year’s awardees and stakeholders.

First awarded in 2012, the BSP grants the Pagtugon Award to the bank that is most responsive and efficient in serving and protecting the interest of its clients and the public, in support of the advocacy of the BSP to uphold consumer protection. The award is proof of PR Savings Bank’s fulfilment of its mission of being responsive to the needs of its customers by consistently providing innovative and pioneering products and services that are meant to improve their life pathways.

Now with 46 branches and 56 other banking offices (OBOs), PR Savings Bank is the 4th largest independent savings bank in the country in terms of total resources and the 3rd largest in terms of loans (as of December 31, 2013 based on data from the BSP website, www.bsp.gov.ph). The Bank recently received approval from the BSP to establish 6 additional branches and 23 more OBOs. Its main products are agricultural loans to small rice and corn farmers, motorcycle and tricycle financing and salary loans to public school teachers.

PR Savings Bank is one of only ten (10) banks in the country which were certified as Accredited Rural Financial Institutions (ARFIs) by the BSP, making a bank’s investment in or loan to PR Savings Bank an alternative compliance to the mandatory credit allocation for the agriculture and agrarian reform sectors. An ARFI is an institution whose loan portfolio is substantially agri-agra related as certified by the BSP.
